Senaya, Pfeiffer, Agyei, and Luckassen receive their first Black Stars call-ups.

As Ghana intensifies its preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, Black Stars coach Otto Addo has included four debutants in his 26-man roster for this month’s international friendlies against Austria and Germany.

Derrick Luckassen, Marvin Senaya, Daniel Agyei, and Patrick Pfeiffer are all scheduled to join the team in Vienna prior to the two high-profile games after earning their first call-ups.

Luckassen, a center back for the Cypriot team Pafos FC, comes with a wealth of European experience, having played for teams like Anderlecht, Hertha BSC, and PSV Eindhoven. The defender, who was born in the Netherlands, recently contributed to Pafos winning the league title in 2024–2025 and made history by scoring the team’s first UEFA Champions League goal.

Since making his professional debut in 2021, Senaya, a member of the French Ligue 1 team AJ Auxerre, has developed his career gradually. The adaptable defender has previously played for Lausanne-Sport, Sochaux, and Strasbourg.

After playing for Turkish team Kocaelispor, forward Agyei, who was born in England, was also rewarded with his first invitation. Before relocating overseas, he played in England for teams including Burnley, Oxford United, and Crewe Alexandra.

In an effort to bolster his defensive options before the international assignments, Addo has added Pfeiffer, a defender for German Bundesliga II team Darmstadt 98, to the roster of debutants.

A number of important players, including Iāaki Williams, Thomas Partey, Alexander Djiku, and Ibrahim Sulemana, have returned to the team and are anticipated to play important roles in the forthcoming games.

Together with Joseph Anang and Benjamin Asare, Lawrence Ati-Zigi will oversee Ghana’s goalkeeping division. Gideon Mensah, Jerome Opoku, and Jonas Adjetey are just a few of the young and experienced players the coach has assembled in defense.

The attack features a combination of speed and inventiveness with Jordan Ayew, Antoine Semenyo, Kamaldeen Sulemana, Abdul Fatawu Issahaku, and Brandon Thomas-Asante, while the midfield will be led by the powerful Partey, who will be assisted by Elisha Owusu, Ibrahim Sulemana, and Kwasi Sibo.

In what are anticipated to be difficult tests for the team, the Black Stars will play Austria in Vienna on March 27 and then fly to Stuttgart to play Germany on March 30.
The games are a part of Ghana’s World Cup preparations, and Addo uses the chance to evaluate fresh talent and improve his team in advance of the qualifiers and the actual competition.
